Nestled in the vibrant heart of North Perth, Gyouten offers an authentic Japanese dining experience that feels both intimate and exquisitely refined. Specializing in traditional Japanese cuisine, this restaurant promises a journey through fresh, seasonal flavors artfully presented with elegance and care. Whether you find yourself indulging in their celebrated omakase menus or savoring delicate sashimi and sushi selections, each bite is a testament to the chef’s dedication to craftsmanship and quality.

The sensory delight begins the moment you step inside Gyouten. The atmosphere exudes calm sophistication—an inviting space that balances warmth with understated elegance, ideal for both special occasions and thoughtful gatherings. As shared by Fubuki Katsu, the ambience provides an “excellent setting,” further elevated by the attentive and professional service highlighted by patrons like Ruby Lu, whose heartfelt praise for the staff’s friendly attentiveness truly captures the personalized experience that sets Gyouten apart.

A standout offering at Gyouten is the $99 Shoken Kappo, a seven-course omakase tasting menu that beautifully showcases seasonal ingredients. Diners are treated to an array of exquisitely prepared dishes—silky sea urchin, fresh abalone, fragrant eel, and even charcoal-grilled duck breast—each course balancing refinement with approachable flavors. Melissa Kueh’s reflection on the Kappo menu reveals not just the richness of flavors but also the artistry behind every plate, inviting diners to appreciate Japanese cuisine at its best.

Whether it’s a celebratory meal marked by a special cake as Fubuki enjoyed, or a private dining event that brings friends together as recalled by PN H, Gyouten clearly makes every occasion memorable. The chef’s passion shines through every meticulously prepared dish, and the exceptional quality of ingredients is consistently noted by guests. Even those dipping their toes into the omakase experience, like JayJay Tatin, recognize the beauty in presentation and care that defines each meal.

We visited Gyouten Omakase and really appreciated the lovely atmosphere — the space feels calm, elegant, and intimate, perfect for a special dining experience. The service was also excellent, with staff who were attentive and professional throughout the evening. We could tell that high-quality ingredients were used and the presentation was beautiful. However, the flavour profile wasn’t quite to our liking. While everything was fresh and well-executed, we personally felt the seasoning was missing something — just a little more depth or balance would have made it perfect for our taste. Still, it was a unique experience and we appreciate the effort and quality behind each dish. It may simply come down to personal preference.

Catching up with friends is always the best — and this $99 Shoken Kappo made it even better! The seven-course omakase was such a great introduction to Kappo dining: fresh abalone and sashimi, silky sea urchin, fragrant eel, and even charcoal-grilled duck breast — every course showcased beautiful seasonal flavours and craftsmanship. It felt refined yet approachable, and definitely great value for the quality you’re getting. The service was warm and attentive, pacing of the dishes was spot on, and the whole experience felt special without being overly formal. Perfect for a relaxed catch-up or a little date night treat. Highly recommend and would love to come back again!

We had the $99 Shoken omakase. The service and atmosphere were fantastic, and the food was great for the price. There was a small mistake on our bill, but they fixed it as soon as I reached out. Overall, I’d love to come back.

Everything about this place is impeccable. The service, food, attention to detail. The staff were welcoming from the get go and very genuine. Each dish was evidently put together with a lot of thought and care with selection of only the very best ingredients. Hard to fault anything about this place. My wife and I were rating each of the dishes as we had them and there were a lot of 10/10s. If you’re wondering whether to fill up a little beforehand since the servings may look small, DON’T. In fact starve yourself beforehand because you will leave feeling more plump than Augustus Gloop after a dip in the Chocolate River. This place really feels like it was created out of passion and love for Japanese cuisine. And the whole menu was curated perfectly. A must try for anyone that is daring with flavours, and I guess doesn’t mind splashing quite a bit of cash.
